Learning to Fly

Not quite yet, but the first step is learning to sit up by himself. The little monk got some fresh air with his parents Allan and Grace at a nearby park on the first week of Autumn.

My wife, Lydia, went to school with both Vince and Shuk-Ka and ever since university, I have gotten to know both of them fairly well. Vince and I share a love of gadgets and Shuk-Ka and Lyd have this quiet friendship that has lasted for 17 years. Lyd had the privilege of being Shuk-Ka’s matron of honour while I tagged along. So now, while we’re enjoying the chilly breeze of the autumn wind, they are sitting on a beach somewhere on the Hawaiian islands sipping another glass of Mai Tai. Congratulation Vince & Shuk-Ka!

I sort of feel like the nanny that grows up with the family from one life event to the next. That’s how it is with Jason and Bonnie. When I first started my business, they were my first clients as I covered their e-session, wedding/reception, birth of their daughter and now a family photo session. It has definitely been a great sharing these moments with them and I hope there will be many more!

My initial idea for this baby photo session was to head out somewhere different and find a place where mom & dad could actually play with their daughter, who was still learning to walk. My idea, IKEA kids playground. However, when I got to their house, the only rule of baby photography became evident – the only predictable thing about babies is that they are unpredictable. Sydney hadn’t slept much the night before (and neither did her parents) and she was not in any mood to go anywhere. Luckily, they had an indoor playground of their own at home and gradually, Sydney warmed up to the camera and was almost posing for photos herself.
