Back to the motherland

Posted on June 13th, 2008

It’s 3am and we’re packing for vacation!  My wife and I will be taking a long deserved break in Hong Kong for two weeks while we’re there for a relative’s wedding. If you have any questions or would like to inquire about our services, please do not hesitate to email us at jon@moxiphoto.com. I will be checking email frequently and hopefully updating this blog with some experiences from our trip to Taipei as well.

Ok, so I’m a little behind in updating the blog.  What better time than a long weekend to catch up.  I actually didn’t take too many photos in HK, but Taipei was great!  The one thing you will remember about Taiwan is the food!  It’s cheap and it’s tasty and it’s everywhere.  The night markets are strewn all across Taipei and every street corner so you can “da been lo” any time of the night.  My favourite was a crispy beef bun that they sold on the street corner that was suppose to be nationally famous.  It’s about 3″ in diameter, but when you bit into it, a bowl of soup would spill out.  I wasn’t aware of this and, of course, soak my shirt with beef soup on a 34 degree Celcius day.  I didn’t care.  The bun was amazing!  So I smelled like beef soup for the rest of day…

The other cool place was Chiang Kai-shek Square or now renamed as Liberty Square.  Our friends Ray and Sandra led us around town for the three days we were there and we ended up here on one of the nights.  It was still pretty humid at night, but at least the heat resided a little.  You can see in my photo the Chiang Kai-shek memorial, that there is a man lying down in the middle of the square.  He was there when we arrived and he was still there 30 minutes later when we left.  Kind of ruins the photo, but definitely amusing.  Time for a little photoshop magic.  =)

I was surprised that I was able to tolerate the heat, but I heard that July and August were much worst.  Can’t wait to visit Hong Kong again!

Winnie’s Angels

Posted on March 10th, 2008

I had recently shot a e-session for Winnie and her fiance, Warren. She and her friends enjoyed the photos from that session so much that she wanted to get her best friends together before she left for Australia. They let their personalities loose and struck a pose in the cold for a fun and relaxing day at Old Unionville. Love the LV, girls!

Dragon Ball 2008

Posted on February 10th, 2008

This was my first year attending the annual fund-raising event organized by the Yee-Hong Community Wellness Foundation. My late grandma had been a resident at one of their facilities for many years and I thought it would be a good opportunity to support them through volunteering as a photographer and at the same time make some connections with the community. I was lucky enough to be assigned to cover the George Brown team who created some delicious appetizers for the event and also cover the general program. For a huge production like this, it is amazing that 99% was all done through volunteer support.

Forsythe Family Farm

Posted on July 28th, 2007

It was the final meeting of the Cornerstone Photo Club and we decided to get a little fresh air out on a farm. There were great photo opportunities as a small group of us played with the farm animals, took a tractor wagon ride and wandered through the “enchanted forest”. I’ve had a great time teaching and, at the same time, learning from the enthusiastic members of this club. They have all come leaps and bounds since their first day because of their excitement in seeing the world a little differently through the lens of a camera. I am very proud of every one of the members!

Massimo!

Posted on July 7th, 2007

Last night, our friend Irene celebrated her birthday in style as her loving husband set up a private celebrity cooking class for her and a group of close friends. My wife and I were happy to be able to enjoy Massimo’s food for a second time as we had attended his class before. And again, he does not disappoint with his flavourful and colourful cuisine! The class was held at Nella Cucina in midtown Toronto. Check them out when you get a chance.
